Three decades ago, twenty kilometers east of Manila in Barrio Santolan, Pasig, amongst vast areas of rice rustry galvanized sheets. This was the humble beginning of HIMMEL INDUSTRIES, INC. On hindsight, HIMMEL, a German word for sky or heaven, is prophetic as witnessed by the meteoric rise of its founder, DR. LUCIO TAN, to the top of the business world.
At the start, flavoring compounds and aromas were manufactured. The firm's activities later on expanded to include trading in various industrial chemicals. A year after its inception, Himmel procurred an old glycerine plant which, by present standard, was as good as scrap. Undaunted by the limitations of equipment and resources, continuous tinkering with the machine for two years resulted in the production of the only USP grade refined glycerine in the country.
